The Audio Technica AT-20 was the best Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge produced by Audio Technica in the 1970s - basically an incremental improvement over the AT-15 based on hand selection of the best cartridge bodies. The AT-20 was meant for quadrophonic playback and during its lifespan the AT-20 was consistently available in a nude Shibata version and in a period also in a nude line contact version (AT-15LC). Over time the Shibata variant was gradually improved in versions AT-15S, AT-15Sa, and AT-15SS. Each iteration improved the cantilever system by lowering the moving mass and optimizing compliance. The development culminated with the AT-20SS (Super Shibata) that carried a size-optimized nude Shibata diamond on a berylium cantilever - widely considered among the best MM cartridges ever produced.
The replacements offered on this page will work in all variants of the Audio Technica AT-20.
