The Sumiko Songbird comes in two versions. A high output and a low output. Together with the high output sibling this Sumiko Songbird Low Output MC is part of the Reference Series and has a beautiful open-body anchored to a highly rigid, resonance-optimized headblock. This is the low output version, which means that you need a MC phono stage or a step up between a MM phono stage and the cartridge.

All Sumiko cartridges from Oyster to the Reference series are crafted by hand in Yokohama Japan. 

Sumiko engineers have selected by ear the finest materials and each design is thoroughly auditioned until perfected. Production is then executed by world-class cartridge makers with a collective eye for precision & quality.

The sound is clear and ultra-musical with just the right degree of warmth, dynamic and firm bass, and compared to the high output version the Songbird Low offers an even deeper soundstage with greater reach width-wise

Sumiko Songbird Low Output MC has the universal ½”-mount and threaded inserts in the cartridge body, which enable the cartridge to be mounted to the headshell with just two screws.

We recommend around 20 hours break-in.
