Sumiko Blue Point No. 3 comes in two versions. A low output version that needs extra amplification or a Moving Coil phono stage and a high output version that can be connected directly to a moving magnet (MM) phono stage. They are very similar in sound - the low output has a little more of everything soundwise, but the high-output is easier, more convenient and mostly cheaper to pair with a MM phono stage without having to buy extra amplification.
With the development of Blue Point No. 3 the issue of resonance has been addressed because it has a more significant impact on the sound than many listeners may realize. Sumiko has sought to reimagine how the housing resonates around the generator.
This is Sumiko Blue Point No. 3 high output.
With the sonic performance of the Blue Point No. 3, Sumiko harkens back to vintage Shure & Stanton MMs which are known for their smoothness. Sumiko Blue Point No. 3’s sonic picture can be described as having a punchy bass which is full and warm yet defined and textured. The mids are lush and decipherable. The highs are sweet and airy with fine attack and decay.
Sumiko Blue Point No. 3 high output has the universal ½”-mount and threaded inserts in the cartridge body, which enable the cartridge to be mounted to the headshell with just two screws.
We recommend around 20 hours break-in.
